How to check your machine

  1. Remove your portafilter basket and measure the diameter across the top rim.
  2. Match that measurement to the closest size in the table above.
  3. Check the specific product page — most Normcore baskets, portafilters, and puck screens list exact compatible machine brands in the size/variant selector.

Description

Cleaner extraction. Easier cleanup.

The Normcore Espresso Puck Screen sits on top of your tamped coffee puck to help distribute water more evenly, reduce channeling, and keep your machine’s shower screen cleaner.

Made from 316 stainless steel, the screen is designed for daily contact with hot water and coffee. It also helps prevent coffee grounds from sticking to the group head shower screen, making cleanup faster after each shot.

Choose from multiple sizes to match your espresso setup, including 58.5mm, 53.3mm, 51mm, 49mm, and 45.5mm. The Silver version uses a 150μm mesh, while the Black Titanium PVD Coating version uses a finer 100μm mesh for users who prefer a more refined contact screen.

A 58.5mm round-hole version is also available for easier removal and bottomless portafilter workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a puck screen do for espresso?
A puck screen sits on top of your tamped coffee puck, between the coffee and the shower screen. It disperses water more evenly across the puck surface, reduces channeling, and prevents coffee grounds from sticking to the group head shower screen — making cleanup faster. Many baristas report cleaner, more balanced shots after adding a puck screen.
What sizes are the Normcore Puck Screens available in?
The Normcore Lower Shower Screen / Puck Screen is available in 58.5mm, 53.3mm, 51mm, 49mm, and 45.5mm to fit most home and commercial espresso machines including Breville/Sage, DeLonghi, E61 machines, Flair, and ROK espresso makers.
What material is the Normcore Puck Screen made from?
316 food-grade stainless steel with a 150μm mesh. The 316 alloy is superior to the more common 304 stainless — it contains molybdenum which makes it significantly more corrosion-resistant and safe for daily contact with acidic coffee and hot water.
How thick is the Normcore Puck Screen and does it affect espresso volume?
The screen is 1.7mm thick with a 150μm mesh. At this thickness, it has a negligible effect on headspace inside the portafilter basket. For very full baskets, you may need to reduce your dose by 0.5–1g to maintain proper puck-to-screen clearance.
How do I clean the puck screen?
Rinse under hot water immediately after each shot. For weekly deep cleaning, soak in a cafiza (espresso cleaner) solution for 20–30 minutes or include it in your backflush routine. The 316 stainless steel resists staining and does not require special care beyond regular rinsing.
